Stradivarius…guitar!
The oldest playable Stradivarius guitar was built in 1679.Of the five surviving guitars from the shop of Antonio Stadivari, only one is in playable condition. The Sabionari Guitar from the late 17th century can be heard on professional recordings.
The guitar was built by famous violin maker in Cremona, Italy in 1679. Guitar legend Andrew Segovia inscribed, “original” inside the guitar at a conference in 1948.
The instrument was most recently restored in the last decade. It is currently used for special concerts, recordings or on display at museums in Europe.
